Design engineers in sheet metal must have strong mechanical and computer-aided design (CAD) skills. They must be able to design and develop 3D models of components and assemblies and have a good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities:
• Create 3D models of components and assemblies using CAD software
• Develop and optimize designs for cost, performance, and manufacturability
• Research, develop and evaluate new and existing materials and processes
• Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to ensure designs are suitable for production and meet customer requirements
• Prepare CAD drawings and bills of materials
• Perform design calculations to ensure components meet the required specifications
• Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues
• Perform design reviews and provide feedback to the engineering team
• Follow all design and engineering standards and guidelines
Qualification:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
• Proficiency in CAD software such as Solidworks
• Knowledge of sheet metal materials, processes, and fabrication techniques
• Understanding of GD&T principles and practices
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
